It is truly an honor to serve as your State Senator for the 28th District. Since being elected in 2007, I have worked hard for common sense solutions to fix our roads, clean up the Chesapeake Bay, improve our children's education, and ensure a better quality of life for our citizens.
This past session was by far the most challenging since serving as your Senator. We were faced with the daunting task of closing a $4 billion budget gap, and while all areas faced substantial cuts, I am proud to have led the way to fund our Sheriffs and Commonwealth Attorneys with legislation that ensures the people who use our court system to sue each other pay their way while also providing tort reform.
I am encouraged that we now have Governor Bob McDonnell who is setting the pace for economic growth in our state and is willing to work with us on providing leadership in job growth, fiscal responsibility and making sure your tax dollars are being wisely spent. Governor McDonnell is leading in a truly bipartisan manner.
One of my priorities as your senator is to bring jobs to our area to improve our local economies. People are hurting and family budgets are tightening. That is why I will continue to support legislation and initiatives that put less of a burden on small businesses and families when it comes to paying taxes. This will help businesses expand or locate to our area, which will help provide jobs and increase our revenue. Likewise, it will improve the quality of life for our families so they can spend more time with their families and less time commuting to work.
I look forward to continuing to work with you over the next few years. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
Together we continue to make Virginia a great place to live, work and raise a family!
Senator Richard H. Stuart
